Modern wedding style

There's a relaxed feel to modern weddings in 2017 from vintage inspired celebrations and outdoor hand fastings to less formal weddings in a private country house or castle. And as we emerge from a downturn in the economy, many couples have revised their priorities about what they want to spend their money on, invite fewer guests, and mid week celebrations and wedding weekends are definitely in vogue.

Wedding venues that have been approved for marriage tick all the boxes of hosting the wedding ceremony, reception and overnight accommodation, and suits couples looking for a long weekend followed by a mini moon to make the most of time with family and friends.

Civil marriage ceremonies and same sex weddings in either a Register Office or Approved Premises now account for 2/3rds of all marriages in England and Wales.

Planning a wedding with a mini moon couldn't be easier in the idyllic Exmoor village of Dunster where there are three wedding and reception venues including a fairy tale castle, an award winning hotel and a Tithe Barn approved for the civil ceremony. And a church, bridal shop, beauticians, hotels, guest houses and local wedding services, are all close at hand. If you want to explore, you won't need to look far for beaches, nature, miles of stunning Somerset coastline, Exmoor National Park and West Somerset Steam Railway for romantic days out, walks and celebrations.

Eco/green weddings that reduce the impact of the wedding on the environment may include, planning to find a wedding venue that is a convenient distance for all the guests to travel to, sourcing locally produced organic food and drink, recycling items such as jewellery, veils and table decorations, rather than buying new (remember, something old!) finding a supplier of British garden flowers and naturally grown confetti for wedding bouquets and decorations and taking a honeymoon in the UK rather than jetting off abroad.

Late deals are everywhere whether these are mid week, or weekend, with a huge variety of wedding venues all over the UK and plenty of dates to go round you can get just about anything your want. Just decide to be flexible and if you have to plan your wedding at short notice then it can be done.

Village Halls are popular and cheap to hire but check the access and finishing times as there are often restrictions which may curtail the fun at 11pm.

Late afternoon weddings are popular and relaxing, and you can now have a civil ceremony or same sex wedding anytime up to midnight in the UK. We think up to 4pm is great because then you can go straight into reception drinks and food and party the night away!

Outdoor weddings are in vogue too (despite the unpredictable British weather) and especially when conducted by a Civil Celebrant or Officiant. This way you can personalise your ceremony, choose hymns and religious references that aren't permitted in a Civil Ceremony. The most popular outdoor ceremonies are blessings and hand fastings but you will need to be legally married by a Registrar which can be done before or after at a venue offering suitable facilities for you and your guests.

Civil Ceremonies and same sex weddings account for more than 2/3rds of all marriages in the UK. And there's a fantastic variety of beautiful wedding venues and so there is a lot of choice for every style and budget. Here's a list of wedding venues to take a look at.
